START FROM “A” –

1)  AFFECT –

Meaning Make somebody/something change in a particular way.

To influence.

Sentence-   Poverty can affect anyone, regardless of age,  race, gender or social background.

EFFECT –

Meaning –  A change that is caused by something.

A result.

Sentence- This medicine has no side effects.

 

 

2) ADAPT –

Meaning-To becomes familiar with the new situation.

To change behaviour accordingly.

Sentence – He tried to adapt himself to his new surroundings.

ADEPT –

Meaning- Skilful, Skilled

Sentence-He is adept at telling lies.

ADOPT –

Meaning- Take a child into your family and treat him as your own child by law.

To take and use something.

Sentence – Tom adopted a new policy.

You were adopted.

 

 

 3) ALTERNATE –

Meaning – Happening or following regularly one after the other.

One of every two.

Sentence –  I may suggest an alternate plan.

During the trip, I and john alternated driving the car.

ALTERNATIVE –

Meaning – Different to what is usual or traditional.

Sentence- We had no alternative but to fight.

 

 

 4) AMICABLE –

Meaning – Made or done in a friendly way.

Sentence – The disputes between two neighbours have reached a point at which no amicable adjustment was possible.

AMIABLE –

 Meaning – Friendly and pleasant.

Sentence –She has an amiable personality. She is always ready to help.

 1) BARE-

 Meaning-  Uncovered, Naked

Sentence- She likes to walk bare feet when the pavement ( marble floor  ) had been warmed due to the sun.

BEAR-

Meaning-  To be able to accept and deal with something unpleasant.

Sentence- Bears can climb the trees.

He couldn’t bear the heat.

2) BERTH-

Meaning- A place for sleeping on a train.

Sentence- She booked a birth on a train from Delhi to Mumbai.

 

BIRTH- 

Meaning- Being born.

The country you belongs to.

Sentence- She gave birth to twins.

She lived in London but she is Indian by birth.

3) BRAKE-

Meaning- Part of the vehicle, makes it go slower or stop.

Sentence- Riding a bicycle without brakes is a stupid thing to do.

BREAK-

Meaning- To separate into two or more pieces.

Take a rest.

Sentence- Who has broken my tumbler.

Take a break.

 

4) BREAD-

Meaning- Chapati

 

Sentence- I want to eat bread.

 

BRAID-

Meaning-  Plait.

Sentence-  She straightens her hairs and gave her braid to a flip ( jolt).
